Abstract

The use of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) has been widely exploited in bone regenerative medicine. The aim of tissue engineering is to provide an in vivo-like microenvironment for the clinical use of such stem cells. Electrospun nanofibrous scaffolds with high surface to volume ratio, interconnected pores, ability to control the parameters during fabrication, mimicking in vivo extracellular matrix (ECM), and enabling to retain growth factors could provide such an environment. Various studies have used electrospun scaffolds as a supportive matrix for osteogenic differentiation of iPSCs. Due to the unique nature of the bone, several attempts have been done to increase the mechano-chemical properties of electrospun scaffolds and accelerate the osteogenic differentiation of iPSCs cultured on these scaffolds. In this paper, the effects of electrospun scaffolds on osteogenic differentiation of iPSCs are reviewed. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd
